Phil Weglarz is a licensed California Marriage and Family Therapist (MFT#48479) and Registered Expressive Art Therapist (#R110) with experience working with children, adults and families in a variety of settings, including foster homes, after school programs, residential youth services, child welfare agencies, hospitals, adult day treatment, and in private practice. As lecturer, professor and supervisor, Phil trains students and professionals on the use of creative processes in psychotherapy.

Phil earned his MA in Counseling Psychology with an emphasis in Expressive Arts Therapy from CIIS in San Francisco, with additional post-graduate training in Attachment- & Trauma-Dysregulation, proactive behavior management, DIR®/Floortime, TEACCH, and Child Trauma-Informed Casework Practice, among other techniques and approaches. In addition, Phil has spent many years offering individual and group psychotherapy for adults with complex medical problems and seniors with all stages of Alzheimer’s, including offering grief counseling and on-going psychotherapy for spouses, adult children, and caregivers. Phil works with children, adults, couples and families in private practice, often working in a hands-on, dynamic art studio setting. In 2010, Phil also began an exciting expressive arts program for children, called "Active Imagination," which (in addition to being awesomely creative and fun) helps build self-esteem and strong peer and adult relationships, especially among young boys who might receive negative attention for their natural appetites for highly physical and imaginative play in other settings (i.e., home, school, in the community).
